OUR HISTORY
Integrated Movement Studies (IMS) was founded in 1983 by Peggy Hackney, Janice Meaden, and Pam Schick. Ed Groff later joined as a co-director.
Together the four directors of IMS developed uniquely embodied and innovative learning models and methodologies to facilitate creative learning and application of Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis. Some of their most notable contributions to the field include utilizing Dr. Charles M. Johnston's Creative Systems Theory(sm) model for understanding stages within the creative process that lead to integration as a pedagogical frame for all IMS training programs. Another significant contribution is the development of the Touch for Movement Repatterning(sm) methodology which teaches specific touch practices to introduce new sensation and thus possibility to the movement experience.
In 2012 Integrated Movement Studies was revitalized by Cadence Whitter and Janice Meaden along with Colleen Wahl. Integrated Movement Studies is recognized for its comprehensive study of human movement and its meaning, and continues to hold the tradition of its founders, while incorporating emerging insights and information.
